Starting with the works in Arnaldo Pomodoro's Studio, we investigate the “negative” workmanship used by the artist to create his sculptures and experience this technique firsthand. We manipulate the clay until it becomes a plane on which to imprint with tools and various instruments the abstract signs typical of his work. We mix water and plaster and pour the mixture into our clay mold. While we wait for the plaster to dry, we explore the characteristics of the materials used by the sculptor. Finally we unmold our bas-relief and notice that the marks impressed in negative in clay have become reliefs in positive in plaster! How much magic in the transformation of sign and material!
