On Wednesday 19 June (6pm, at the Museo del Novecento) Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro presents "KOOL. A Type Specimen", the new artist's book by Magali Reus, winner of the seventh edition of the Arnaldo Pomodoro Sculpture Prize. For the book launch there will be a talk with the participation of Magali Reus, Emily King (author of one of the texts contained in the book), Edoardo Bonaspetti (curator and publisher), and Federico Giani (curator of the Foundation).

KOOL. A Type Specimen is an artist's book built around KOOL font ("cabbage" in Dutch), a new font designed by Reus in collaboration with Antonio de la Hera and Kia Tasbihgou. Halfway between a vegetal alphabet and concrete poetry, the KOOL font includes 26 lowercase letters, 26 uppercase letters, a complete set of numbers, 16 punctuation marks and 6 symbols, and is the result of research that the artist has been carrying out for three years, focused on the visual and calligraphic relationship between red cabbage scraps and letters of the Latin alphabet. The book created by Reus to present his font is inspired by the traditional format of the type specimen book, i.e. the sample book of typographical foundries, used to show customers the myriad of graphic possibilities, layouts and configurations of a new typeface.

Published by the Foundation in collaboration with Lenz Press, the book – containing texts by design writer Emily King and food writer Rebecca May Johnson – was born as an offshoot of Off Script , personal exhibition by Reus, organised by the Foundationin collaboration with the Museo del Novecentoin Milan, open to visitors until 30 June 2024 >. The exhibition, curated by Federico Giani, displays a selection of the artist's most recent sculptures, the Clementines, a series that takes his visual inspiration from the jars of jam and preserves of the family tradition, alongside some wall paintings of the special characters of the KOOL, specially made for the occasion.
