Mario Schifano
Studio per esterno, 1962
enamel, pastel and graphite on paper, 68 × 51 cm
Since 1962, signs of urban iconography have entered Schifano's work, causing talk of Italian Pop Art. The paper in the collection, from that same year, shows us a sketch where the most typical emblems of this Schifano season appear: the Coca Cola writing, semi-erased at the bottom, and the rounded frame that usually contains the Esso logo. The Studio per esterno actually seems like the graphic project for a painting that reproduces a vertical sequence of advertising posters displayed in an urban exterior.
