Hans Richter
Senza titolo, 1962
collage on paper, 10 × 14 cm
A great experimenter and great provocateur, Hans Richter retained his polemical energy until the end. Interested in painting, abstraction in particular, but also in music and cinema, which he practiced especially from the mid-1920s, the multifaceted artist was a protagonist of German Dada and an important essayist. The collage in the collection is an ironically aggressive “statement”. The line that departs from the female face, cut out from some magazine of the time, triggers a controversy with the then prevailing Pop aesthetics, while it serves as recognition of the work of Pomodoro, to whom the work is dedicated: “Dear Pomodoro, Good boy!!! And our sincere congratulations. Thanks heaven that not everything has to be POP Art. Because shit is shit and Art is Man. Au revoir in Milan in September. Frida and Hans Richter”.
