Œdipe. L’abîme de l’âme

curated by Antonio Calbi
3 February – 26 April 2024
Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Parigi, 50 Rue de Varenne, 75007 Paris

Friday 2 February, at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Parigi, inaugurates the exhibition Odipe. L'abîme de l'âme, curated by Antonio Calbi. Visitors to the exhibition will also find the Porte dell'Edipo (1988) by Arnaldo Pomodoro on display, on loan from theFoundation's Collection, and L'inizio del tempo n. 2(1958), protagonist of the exhibition L’inizio del tempo. Le ricerche spazialiste di Arnaldo Pomodoro .

Fifteen contemporary authors interpret, each according to their own language and poetics, the figure of Oedipus, comparing themselves with one of the most emblematic characters of Western theater and culture. Oedipus, a paradigmatic character who has passed through the history of Western culture, continues to be an inexhaustible source of inspiration even today: he is the tragedy of vision, of the search for truth and introspection. The act of seeing is the basis of every aesthetic and creative experience and reflecting on the figure of Oedipus, on his unfortunate fate, is a way for artists to reflect on themselves, on their own aesthetic research. The exhibition offers both works created for the occasion and works already in the artists' repertoire, combining different artistic expressions, from painting to sculpture, from installation to photography.

After the Regional Gallery of Palazzo Bellomo in Siracusa and the Musma in Matera, the works of Matteo Basilé, Michele Ciacciofera, Marilù Eustachio, Silvia Giambrone, Emilio Isgrò, Cristina Martin, Giovanni Migliara, Hermann Nitsch, Mimmo Paladino, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Umberto Passeretti , Stefania Pennacchio, Alfredo Pirri, Vettor Pisani, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Stefano Ricci, Alfredo Romano and Nicola Toce are exhibited in the headquarters of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Paris, the Hôtel de Galliffet.
