Emilio Isgrò
Open up Arnaldo, 2007
acrylic on wood, 167 × 240 × 13 cm
The monochrome writing on wood in Isgrò serves to give life to a paradox, in line with the criticism that the artist makes of language and its ability to communicate. After the deleted texts, where only a few words left legible provided the interpretative key to the act, and other research comparable to Visual Poetry (examples can be found in the works donated to Pomodoro by the artist, such as Arnaldus and Open Up Arnaldo, a sign of their long and close bond of friendship), in the Seventies Isgrò approached conceptual research by testing the communicative potential of the relationship between word and image, which the work exploits to deconstruct ironically.
