The Foundation

Founded in 1995 at the behest of Arnaldo Pomodoro, the Foundation was created to be a place of study and discussion around the important themes and great figures of the contemporary avant-garde as well as acting as a real cultural centre, holding exhibitions, meetings, conferences, book presentations and concerts.
After experiences in Rozzano and in via Solari in Milan, from the Spring of 2013, the Foundation’s activity has continued in a new, recently renovated exhibition space in via Vigevano 9, adjacent to the Foundation’s archives and the artist’s studio.
Located near the Darsena (Milan’s inland dock), the new facility blends with the historical locations of Arnaldo Pomodoro’s work. The proximity between the different environments creates a highly stimulating artistic hub that, among the ancient courtyards of the canals, closely welds the contiguity between the site where Pomodoro’s sculpture was born and the eponymous Foundation which documents and promotes it, thereby establishing a venue where the cultural life of the city can meet and interact.

The Statute of the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro

The Foundation is to guarantee correct information concerning all the works of Arnaldo Pomodoro (in order that they be catalogued, made known, preserved in the best possible manner, and be given their due attention on a historic-critical-cultural level), and to promote detailed information regarding the founder’s oeuvre, for both the general public and as an educational tool for art schools.
The aims of the Foundation include the following initiatives:
a) the creation of a Museum, understood as a place for research on, and the preservation and promotion of the oeuvre of Arnaldo Pomodoro on both a national and international scale;
b) the promotion of studies concerning the history and critical analysis of twentieth-century Italian sculpture and art;
c) the organization of cultural debates and conventions, the publication of periodicals or books regarding culture, art, literature and criticism in each specific field, as well as the allotment of subsidies for high-level cultural initiatives in the field of contemporary sculpture;
d) the establishment of an award for young artists who intend to perfect and extend the experimental aspects of new work into expressive language, in particular in the field of sculpture;
e) the exchange of information and establishment of relations with important museums and institutions, including international ones, to promote the work and pursue the aims of the Foundation, even through the possible transfer of works – either in the form of a loan or a donation.

The Foundation has been officially recognized by the Ministry for Art, Culture and the Environment in 1997, and obtained recognition as a museum from the Region of Lombardy from 2007 to 2015.
